Introduction

The Department of Engineering is one of the components of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria Training School. The department offers three Programmes and certificates are awarded at the end of each programme, subject to successful completion of the course. Broadcast Engineering as a discipline is becoming the cornerstone in modern economics since its products have significantly enhanced the capacity and comfort of human beings, especially since the last half of the twentieth century.

The Objectives of this programme includes:

  • Development of a fundamental and thorough understanding of Broadcast Engineering.
  • Production of dynamic broadcast Engineering personnel; capable of adaptation and also resourceful in order to cope with the new trends in technological developments.

 

Basic Engineering

Aim : To provide a basic for understanding the essential principles in Sound and Vision Broadcast Engineering and apply these principles to solving basic practical problems.

Eligibility : To be eligible for admission for this course, candidates must have passed WASCE or NECO Examinations with at least 5 credits in subjects consisting of English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and any other relevant subject at one sitting. The candidate must also possess an Ordinary National Diploma in electrical and Electronics engineering with at least lower credit from an Accredited Institution or a 2 years Diploma programme from a university.

Course Content : This involves knowledge in power and Electronics Engineering as applied to Broadcast equipment. The core subjects include: Engineering, Mathematics, AC Theory/Basic Electrical Power Principles, Basic Principles of Communication Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Television Engineering Principles, Engineering Practice (Field works), use of English and Information Technology (IT).

 

Intermediate Engineering

Aim : The aim is to further stress the fundamental principles that underline the physical operation, analysis and designs of electronics circuits.

Eligibility : The programme is for the following categories of candidates:

One who had successfully completed the Basic Broadcast engineering (BBE).
Holders of HND/B.Sc. /B.Eng. In Electrical and Electronics Engineering without practical knowledge in Broadcast Engineering.

Course Content : The course contents include; Engineering, Mathematics, Transmission lines (Matching Techniques), Communication Systems, Digital Circuits and Systems, Satellite Communications Maintenance Techniques and Information Technology.

 

Advanced Engineering

Aim : To provide students with a broad knowledge of the principles of modern broadcasting systems, photo-devices, transmission medium and fabrication of I.C.

Eligibility : Intending Candidates are expected to have successfully completed the Intermediate Broadcast Engineering Course. OR Electrical and Electronics graduates with HND/B.Sc / B.Eng. The candidates must have relevant working experiences in Sound/Vision Broadcast Engineering. Candidates with higher degrees in Electrical and Electronics Engineering are also eligible for admission.

Course Content : This includes review of photo-devices, treatment of various types of multiplexing techniques, advanced treatment of satellite communications, concept of Digital Audio Broadcasting system, Studio and Transmitter Mechanisms, optic fibre I.C technology, Practical work at Shogunle and Excursion to some media Houses, such as VON, NTA, etc.
