The Fourth Republic, The Yea! Or Nay!

Dr. Tayo Popoola a lecturer from the department of mass communication, university of Lagos has debunk the current believe that we are in the fourth republic.

Popoola made this known in his lecture at a news conference organized by production department of National Broadcast Academy, Ikeja, Lagos.
According to him " Nigeria's third republic was a media and military contraction, it never existed, due to the inconclusiveness of June 12 1993 general elections"

Popoola blamed the media for joining hands with the military to misinform Nigerians about the third republic which he claimed never even existed.

Engr. Ajibola Abiola, the Director National Broadcast Academy, in his keynote address stated that in his own view, that a child aborted and was never given birth to, should not be counted amongst the number of children one has. That he said is the case of the thrd Republic which eventually paved way for the controversial 4th republice.

Speaking separately Dr. Pedro Obaseki and Barr. Abioye Akerele all academia stressed that what we call and know to be the fourth republic is the third republic stressing that the fourth republic which Nigerians claimed to be is a fallacy noting that the media must correct the abnormally.

Also speaking Dr. Unwana Samuel a senior lecturer from the department of production, National Broadcast Academy also charged journalist as gatekeepers and agenda setters to correct the ills caused some good number of years ago.

Speaking earlier In her address, the head department of production in the academy, Mrs. Uche Obaseki made it clear that the gathering was a fall out of an interactive class with students of production department around the controversies surrounding the use of the media in our political history.

The conference tagged "Fourth Republic, the Issues and Questions" drew the attention of students academia and well meaning Nigerians to the premises of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Ikeja, Lagos.
